It is almost impossible to imagine Brazil without samba, and the percussion section is the engine that drives that classic 2/4 rhythm. With a Trap samba percussion workshop, your students or colleagues will become part of a samba bateria and learn to play to the batucada beat on intriguing instruments such as the tamborim.

Using real rhythms and genuine techniques, participants will start by using their voices before mastering the drums en route to a carnival-style performance.

Since the 19th Century, the group of dances known as samba have gradually spread throughout the world, its lively, infectious rhythm evoking the spectacle of the Rio carnival. Now your students or colleagues can learn how to fit three steps in two four time to create that magical samba feel.

They will also learn about the different types of dance from samba no pe, a solo version, to samba de gafieira, a partner dance derived from the maxixe.

From samba to salsa, this very popular Cuban dance is a favourite for anyone who likes to improvise rather than be restricted by formal rules. With a Trap Media salsa dance workshop, participants will be encouraged to experiment with the beat as they make their way across the dance floor.

Our Afro-Cuban percussion workshop will introduce students to a host of intriguing musical instruments including cajones (boxes), campanas (bells), congas, claves, shekeres, the cata and the big bombo.

Our experienced facilitators will teach them the techniques to perform a number of arrangements culminating in a lively percussion session.

For a journey into the many creative street arts that make the Rio carnival and other parades such a visual spectacle, book one of our carnival arts workshops.

Participants will discover some of the meanings behind the famous masks while coming up with their own designs and then bringing them to life. Costume and bead-making workshops are also on offer.
